Detox Facilities Insurance: Common Myths about Addiction

For clients who run or work for a detox facility, it’s imperative to have the right insurance coverage. Understanding the common misconceptions about drug and alcohol addiction could go a long way in helping you understand the unique risks your addiction treatment clients face.

For example, far too many people think that addicts can simply “say no” to drugs. This notion is not only damaging to the addict themselves, but also to the facility in which they choose to seek treatment. This misconception negates the need for facilities such as detox centers, when the fact is that the only reliable way to beat addiction is to go through a complete drug abuse treatment program.

Another misconception is that all drugs prescribed by doctors are safe. There are many Dr. prescribed medications, such as Vicodin, Percocet, and Demerol, that can be just as addictive as illegal drugs, sometimes even more addictive. This does not make the drug abuser a bad person; in fact many people consider drug addiction a disease; a person’s education, vocation, or social standing has no bearing on whether or not the abuse drugs, illegal or otherwise.

One myth that is important for those who seek addiction treatment to know about is that recovery ends after detoxification. This is simply not true; while detoxification is an important part of a drug addiction treatment program, it is a phase and is simply the first of several stages. Your clients should make sure their residents and patients are aware of this, in order to potentially reduce the chance of a lawsuit occurring from a former resident or resident’s family member.

These are just a few of the common myths people have about addiction that may be helpful for your clients to be aware of.  We understand the unique risks your clients face and have worked hard to provide comprehensive Detox Facilities Insurance coverages.
